Developing a website and learning the basics of Adobe Photoshop

G-Blok Oriëntation Course

This was the first course of the study in which we had to develop a website for our ICT-Media academy. In this course we learned the basics about html and css, all we needed to do was develop a ‘basic’ website.

Some of the competencies were:
– Communication skills: making conversation and how to approach, reporting and targeted communicating.
– The basics of Adobe Photoshop
– Learning Html and Css
– Audience-centered design and interactive elements.
– Marketing methods; targeted marketing, how do you approach people.
– The basics of design and the history.

Besides the group project we learned the basics of Adobe Photoshop during this course. This are two of the assignments we had to do, for the first one we had to make a movie poster using a picture of yourself and the element fire. The second assignment was to make a “find the differences”-image.

Making an interactive and educational application for kids

CMD-1 Courseware Design

The first course was an orientation in the study, they showed us all sides of it and we made a start with the basics of our study field. This course was already more challenging, we had to make an educative application for Museon. Museon is a scientific museum targeted on kids. For this project we were assigned to a group of four students together. Every group got a different topic to work with, our topic was: religious objects. The educative application had to be made for children between 11 and 12 years old.

Some of the competencies were:
– Developing a prototype
– Learning Adobe Flash, making visuals and programming
– Analyzing users, tasks and context
– Testing the application
– Learning to apply Interaction Design guidelines

Campaign for Sportcompass

CMD-2 Visual Communication
This course was all about developing a concept in a group of four people. A concept that’s innovative, interactive, a way of visual communication and it should be on an ICT platform. The purpose of the concept is to give information to the target audience and to activate them. At the end of the running there would be a pitch against the other groups of students.

Our client for this project was sportcompass, they wanted to create more name awareness and at the same time make a little money.

Some of the competencies were:
– Developing a productplan
– Collecting data for a multimedia application based on a productplan
– Visualize the concept into an interactive demonstration
– Making a webcam game with processing

Testing the website vliegtarieven.nl

CMD-3 Personal Connection
The project we worked on in this course was all about creating a testing environment and processing the information we gathered.Therefor this was a very educative course, we learned a lot about techniques to use, requirements, Interaction Design, User behauviour, but most importantly we learned how to work for a real client.

There’s always a client when we are working on a project, but in this case we had actual contact ith the client. Our client was New Fountain, they gave us the assignment to test their client’s website vliegtarieven.nl . We had a few meetings with the client, first to communicate about the assignment and ask any questions needed to procceed and in the end we came to present our results and ideas for vliegtarieven.nl, in this meeting we could defend our ideas and discuss with the client which was good learning moment for us.

During this project we had to make a few documents, starting with an audience research. After that a quickscanreport, in which we evaluated the website using heuristic evaluation. Next was the operationalization, where we formulated our research questions, sub questions and test questions, followed by our test tasks and test scenarios. At this point we were ready to test the website, we invited some people who were in our audience to go through our test tasks. And eventually we wrote down the results and conclusions out of the tests and what we would suggest vliegtarieven.nl to do with the results.

Some of the competencies were:
– Advising the client based on results from an usability expert and userstest
– Establish a multi-disciplinary multimedia project
– Execute target group analysis
– Collect usability requirements

Multimedia Exhibition

CMD-4 The experience

The first course with a complete project you had to do individually. The project was to develop a multimedia digital exhibition object and afterwards I would have to test the user experience and the design intentions. Because it was an indivisual project it became more challenging than previous projects, all aspects of the project were in my own hands now.

Some of the competencies were:
– Invent a concept for a multimedia object
– Implementing the multimedia object
– Evaluate the user-experience and persuasion.

I’d always been intrigued by the influence media has on people, therefor my application shines some light on this subject. I chose to make an application using Adobe Flash, presented on a touchscreen screen for the interactive element.

Media Culture Studies

For this course we had to work in groups. Every group has gotten a media subject, such as ‘television‘, ‘radio‘ and more. Our subject was Advertising.

Animation & Visual Design

Print Design

Print Design was one of the courses I did during my Erasmus Exchange in Tampere, Finland. For this course I had to do several assignments.

One of the assigments was to visualize one of the given poems using ink.

During the course we were working on making our own businesscards, which we have printed afterwards for actual use.

Typography was also the subjects of some assignments, the first part was to make the word ´adhesion´ using the correct height and width to make the letters consistent. The second part was to create your own type-font, unfortunately this document is missing at this moment.
